The Stone Town of Zanzibar also known as Mji Mkongwe is the oldest town in Zanzibar and Main City (Capital city) of Zanzibar. Situated at the western coast of Unguja main Island of Zanzibar Archipelago. Former Capital of the Zanzibar Sultanate and flourishing center of spice trade as well Slave trade in 19th Century. It retains its importance as the main city of Zanzibar during the period of British protectorate.
When Tanganyika and Zanzibar joined to form the united Republic of Tanzania, Zanzibar kept the autonomous Status with Stone Town as its local government. It retains its urban fabric and towns cape intact and contains many fine buildings that reflect its Culture of Africa, The Arabs, Indians, and Europeans over more than Millennium.
