Early morning you will be met by Casolodge Travel & Safaris Ltd representative at the Airport/ Residence for a small briefing before embarking on your journey to Samburu, Samburu is fiercely beautiful with its arid savannahs watered by the lovely Ewaso Nyiro River. It is also one of Kenya’s most protected areas and home to species only found north of the equator, from the reticulated giraffe to Grevy’s zebras and Beisa Oryx. A luxurious hostelry set beneath a canopy of acacia trees along the banks of the river. Back to the Camp.
Dinner and Overnight at Ashinil Samburu or similar on Full Board.
DAY 4: SAMBURU GAME RESERVE – LAKE TURKANA
Break early in the morning for Lake Turkana. The rough road gets worse as we descend across ancient lava flows towards the Jade Sea and the Oasis Loiyangalani lying between the lake and Mt. Kulal. Heading straight to our Cradle tented camp for lunch.
Lake Turkana formerly known as Lake Rudolf, is a lake in the Great Rift Valley in Kenya, with its far northern end crossing into Ethiopia. It is the world's largest permanent desert lake and the world's largest alkaline lake. By volume it is the world's fourth largest salt lake after the Caspian Sea, Issyk-Kul Lake and the (shrinking) Aral Sea, and among all lakes it ranks twentieth. The water is potable but not palatable. It supports a rich lacustrine wildlife. The climate is hot and very dry.
Dinner and Overnight at the Elyes Camp.
DAY 5: - LAKE TURKANA FULL DAY
Spend the day relaxing and bathing only interrupted by a short boat excursion to visit the surrounding areas where crocodiles and birds may be spotted. In addition, we visit Loiyangalani and the community settled there while in the evening we may visit one of the Turkana Manyattas for traditional dances under a star studded sky at an extra cost.
On-shore and off-shore winds can be extremely strong as the lake warms and cools more slowly than the land. Sudden, violent storms are frequent. Three rivers (the Omo, Turkwel and Kerio) flow into the lake, but lacking outflow its only water loss is by evaporation. Lake volume and dimensions are variable. For example, its level fell by 10 meters between 1975 and 1993.
Due to temperature, aridity and geographic inaccessibility, the lake retains its wild character. Nile crocodiles are found in great abundance on the flats. The rocky shores are home to scorpions and carpet vipers. Although the lake and its environs have been popular for expeditions of every sort under the tutelage of guides, rangers and experienced persons, they certainly must be considered hazardous for unguided tourists.
Dinner and Overnight at the Elyes Camp.
DAY 6: LAKE TURKANA - SAROVA SHABA
Our destination this day is Sarova Shaba Game Lodge is located in a natural oasis in the heart of the Shaba Game Reserve just east of Samburu, or one can say, in the "Born Free Country" that Joy and George Adamson called home for many years.
It is set along the bank of the Ewaso Nyiro River laid out around the natural springs that flow into the river. The Lodge has a virtual mini forest of indigenous trees, a fish pond and a large free form swimming pool.
Dinner and Overnight at Sarova Shaba Lodge.
DAY 7: SAROVA SHABA – LAKE NAKURU NATIONAL PARK
Our destination today is Lake Nakuru National Park. Arriving in time for Lunch and check in. You will have enough time to freshen up, relax within the lodge as you wait for an afternoon game drive at Lake Nakuru Park. Enjoy an afternoon game drive a long side the shores of the lake where you will have an opportunity of seeing migratory birds. In the acacia woodland, you will search for the plain game including the White Rhino.
Lake Nakuru National Park hosts a fresh water lake. The surface of the shallow lake is often hardly recognizable due to the continually shifting mass of pink. The lake's abundance of algae attracts the vast quantity of flamingos that famously lines the shore. The park has recently been enlarged partly to provide the sanctuary for the black rhino. This undertaking has necessitated a fence to keep out poachers rather than to restrict the movement of wildlife.
The park now has more than 25 rhinos, one of the largest concentrations in the country, so the chances of spotting these survivors are good. There are also a number of Rothschild's giraffe, again trans-located for safety from western Kenya beginning in 1977. Waterbuck are very common and both the Kenyan species are found here. Among the predators are lion and leopard, the latter being seen much more frequently in recent times. The park also has large sized pythons that inhabit the dense woodlands, and can often be seen crossing the roads or dangling from trees.
Dinner and Overnight at Lake Nakuru Sopa or a similar hotel on Full Board basis.
DAY 8: LAKE NAIVASHA – MASAI MARA GAME RESERVE
After an early breakfast set off for the highlight of your trip, the world famous Masai Mara Game Reserve. Enjoy a game drive en-route to your camp where you might encounter some of the “Big Five”( Lion. Elephant. Buffalo. Rhino. Leopard.) And you will most certainly be impressed by the wide variety of species present in this area. The Masai Mara has the highest concentration of land mammals compared to all other parks!
Dinner and Overnight at Mara Serena Safari Lodge on Full Board.
DAY 9: MASAI MARA GAME RESERVE
Spend one more exciting day with unlimited game drives exploring the Mara, home to the proud and traditional Maasai tribe. We can arrange a visit to a local Maasai Village if you like. (@ an extra cost) The Mara is more than just the most popular wildlife park in the country; in many cases it is the reason why people come to visit Kenya. This is a classic African savanna, and the sheer density of wildlife is amazing. Gazelle, wildebeest and zebra graze in large numbers and where prey is found so are predators. Watered by the Mara River and its tributary the Talek, the park here compromises 1510 sq kilometres of open grassland tucked away in the south west corner of the country. In the Mara you will see an astonishing amount of wild life, including the big cats, where lions are found in large prides everywhere and it is not uncommon to see them hunting. Cheetahs and leopards are harder to spot, but are still fairly common. Elephants, buffaloes, zebras and hippos also exist in large numbers.
Dinner & Overnight at Mara Serena Safari Lodge on Full Board.
DAY 10: MAASAI MARA GAME RESERVE – NAIROBI
Enjoy your breakfast then check out of the hotel. Afterwards depart from the Mara paradise and head to Nairobi. Drop off at you preffed location.
